Rethinking museum practices: decolonizing collections – Program
Rethinking museum practices: decolonizing collections is an series of talks curated by CIDOC, COMCOL and ICOM Brasil and brought to you in a partnership with MAM Rio and with the support of Itaú Cultural.
This series of talks is organised as an online conference, divided over 5 days, each with a program of 2,5 hours, where invited speakers will discuss different topics on how to remodel the museum practices focusing on the debate and research about decolonisation. All the sessions are free, but limited to a maximum of 500 participants, and the registration is already open. The conference will use the Zoom platform.
All sessions will have simultaneous translation in English, Portuguese and Spanish

This session will be a community conversation where Indigenous women in museums will be in dialogue with each other around the ways they are working to unsettle colonial spaces, build pathways for transformative change, and participate in practices of organizational restitution and repatriation.

In the final session of our Rethinking series we like to explore approaches to addressing the colonial past and its continuities in our institutions. When rethinking transparency and accountability in the discourse of decolonization; how to go beyond false movements, token actions or empty statements that reproduce the harm of the past; what inspiring efforts are out there?
